sprout design

There's a good chance you have already read about this on some of the other designer's blogs, but I thought I'd give it another mention :-)

These child-focused textile designs are all part of the soon to be launched designers for sproutdesign range... I am so excited to have one of my designs included in this awesome collection! It is such a fun project to be a part of and I feel honoured to have my work alongside such a talented group of designers. To find out more visit sprout design, (and check out the other designers blogs/websites: naomi, kristen, tiel, shannon, surface art, lara, bianca & caitlin)

Yay! We have a new place to call home...

Argh... I can't believe its almost a month between posts! My poor neglected blog :-(
This moving house thing takes up a lot of time!
We are finally out of our temporary accommodation (with very limited/virtually no internet connection) and have moved into a gorgeous rental... Its a freshly renovated old 1950's style house with beautiful polished floorboards and high ceilings - we feel very lucky to have found such an awesome place to live -definately worth the wait! We've nearly finished unpacking, now just starting to sort each room out properly and work out what furniture we need to buy... I'm hoping to get my workroom sorted out soon and can't wait to get properly stuck into work again - I've really missed concentrating on my pattern designs and would like to get some new fabric printed ASAP...
Now we have our internet connection up and running I'm also looking forward to catching up on all my favourite blogs and seeing what everyone else has been up to... (I'm feeling quite out of the loop at the moment!)

It's been a while...

Wow it's been a while between posts! I have only just got back online after moving house... I must admit I'm glad to have all that packing up and organising out of the way (now just the unpacking bit to look forward too!) We are in temporary accommodation at the moment, with most of our belongings in storage till we find a rental - fingers crossed something good will come up soon.

I'm hoping to get back into work mode in the next few days... in the meantime here is a pic of a gorgeous vintage linen tea towel from my Mum. I love the design and colours - so yummy! If you also love vintage tea towels you may like to check out my current post on the made it blog.

treasury love...

I just found out that my flower garden fabric has been included in these two gorgeous treasuries on etsy.
The first one was put together by miriam and showcases original fabrics available on etsy... It made the front page sometime last night (again missed out on actually seeing it there!) but am very excited and pleased to have my work included :-)The second treasury was put together by DaraArt. Love the fresh colours! All these fabulous pieces are made by Australian etsy sellers - very cool!

moving

We are moving back up to Perth in a couple of weeks time and it feels like much of the week has been taken up organising everything to do with that... (I am good at making lists anytime, but you should see my massive list that's happening at the moment, so much to remember!)
I am honestly so excited about the move, can't wait!!
:-)
I also spent the week working on ideas for fabrics and a new fabric design, (nothing I can reveal as yet though...)
And just found out that my blog got a mention over at decor8, (thanks so much Holly!)
Holly has done a post focussing on Australian design and has put together an awesome list of Australian blogs, definately well worth checking out!
And because I like posts with pictures, here's a photo of some cute japanese fabric & trims that arrived this week from the matatabi etsy shop. Frances was so lovely to deal with, make sure you go and have a look at the wonderful fabrics and other cool stuff available in her shop.

Have a great weekend!

Julia Rothman

Thanks so much to everyone for your great feedback on my tree & circle designs :-) I really appreciate all your colourway suggestions and will definately keep them in mind for if/when those designs get printed.
Anyway I really wanted to mention the work of Julia Rothman, I recently discovered her awesome designs on flickr. She creates the most beautiful patterns, illustrations and paintings. Her patterns and illustrations have recently been used on gift wraps, ceramic milk bottles, greeting cards, cushions, magnets and bedspreads.Very inspirational!
To find out more, check out her flickr page and website.

Oh and I also wanted to let you know that you can now find me blogging over at made it along with Anna Laura & Ali J. If you haven't checked out the made it blog before (or even if you have) make sure you go and have a look, its a cool place to find out more about Australian design!

trees...

Have you seen the cool plywood trees that are around at the moment? They had a photo of a few in the May/June issue of Inside Out mag... couldn't get them out of my head! So I came up with my own silhouette-y tree motif, I was thinking a retro, graphic sort of a pattern and this is what I ended up with...

Imagine it kinda large scale - I reckon it'd make a cool fabric for a nice retro bag, or big comfy cushions... and the coloured bit would look good in lots of other colours too (think a nice grassy green, or even a grey...) In the example below: maybe even change the black to a nice charcoal grey? If you have any colour combo ideas let me know, I'd love to hear them :-)

circles...

Here's another pattern design - I can see this one being made into fabric. I wanted something kinda simple that I would want to use for making clothes - like a cool top or dress... (maybe using this?) but I think it would also work for cushions, lampshades, bags, zippered pouches etc...

I'm really pleased with the result.Available now in my etsy shop. I'm also planning to make up some flower garden mix packs soon, hope to add them to the shop in the next few days.
Anyway have a great weekend!

mushrooms

Little clumps of mushrooms as a pattern design...
I tried to depict the mushrooms using a simple sketchy style.
I really like both these colour schemes, each one gives the design such a different feeling.

stationery

I had lots of fun making this pattern design, based on some of the stationery items found on my desk...
